Downy Woodpecker

Downy Woodpeckers are small woodpeckers with white undersides and black and white patterned backs. The males have a bright red spot on the back of their head and the females do not. They are very similar in appearance to the larger Hairy Woodpecker, but only about half the size as the Hairy Woodpecker! They can be seen here year-round.
