House Finch

House Finches are small, sparrow-sized birds. The Females are brown with a striped pattern on their undersides. The Males’s heads and chests are usually a red color, but sometimes will be more orange or even yellowish. The pairs seem to stick close together when they aren’t nesting. Because of the size and coloring, they are often confused with Purple Finches. There are subtle differences which causes many people to misidentify them. They can be seen year-round here.
